How to add a Background Table

	As most of you know I am obsessed with watching my statistics page. I saw this Google search and I remember how long it took me to figure out how to use the background tables. Click Here and read Dev's article explaining how to use the tables they are provided by Hack's Space and Little Fish Big Pond. I think that Dev did an excellent job of explaining how to use the background tables. It's select a background table/download the code/put it in your entry/write your story. I know it seems hard to do at first, but you just have to practice and don't be afraid of making a mistake. You can always delete your mistakes and start over. I hope by posting this entry that more people will be able to find the help they need to use the background tables. I really like them and enjoy using them all the time. Internet Safety?

This week's Clubhouse Challenge is Safety First and Marcus has some great ideas on the subject for us to write about. My mind has been thinking of all kinds of things to write about, but I want to start by telling everyone my first thought: Internet security is as much of an oxymoron as Government intelligence, and I mean no disrespect when I say that, as I type this on my unsecured Linksys wireless network.

In saying that I feel the paranoia of some Internet predator hunting me down to have his/her way with me. Windows Live Spaces Help (WLS) is the best place to start for information on your Space, type in the key word Safety. When I started my first (WLS) site I used my real name in the URL and had to delete the entries and post them here, because I was afraid that some undesirable people might track me down.

If you haven't noticed I still don't post my last name, but I know there's really no security in that either, because it is not that difficult to find that information. This is from something I wrote for a writing contest: Fear in Paradise: "In this digital age: We are even more exposed than ever to the possibility of being devastated by a group of unethical and devious master minds. There are numerous instances where computer hackers have obtained personal information or obtained access to national security data that leaves all of us open to catastrophic consequences."

I could go on and on with all kinds of different ideas about putting safety first, like don't put your local weather on your page with the city that you live in, like I have. Don't use your real photo, like I have, and to give you the best piece of advice that I can tell you is,

"You can never be too careful!"

My Life is a Balancing Act!

This week's Clubhouse Challenge: Balancing Act Marcus asks, "How do you balance your work, family, friends, and personal life?" My answer to this question is, "My Life is a Balancing Act!" If you haven't noticed under my occupation I have: Living Life because I have to deal with a condition that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. If you click on the link Living Life there is only four other people that have that listed as their occupation.

That is one of the reasons why I have chosen My Unique Life in Windows Live Space as the title to my site, because I truly do feel unique but so is everyone else. There are about two million people that suffer with the same condition that I have, so I guess if you look at it that way it's not that unique. It does leave me feeling like I am hiding something from the world, but I also feel that we all deserve some privacy in our lives too!

One of my favorite pieces of writing is: What is Normal? and I spent my first year writing in my Blog about: Looking for an Epiphany in 2007. You might be asking yourself: What does all this have to do with the balancing act that Marcus wanted us to write about? I have already answered that with the title of my story.

I use writing in my Blog every day as my form of writing therapy. Actually this story has very little to do with what the balancing act that most people deal with every day. It's just my way of saying, "I use my Windows Live Space Blog as my balancing act for my life. I apologize if my story doesn't meet the criteria for the Clubhouse's Weekly Challenge."

The Clubhouse Challenge: Events

I have never used the events feature in Windows Live Spaces, and this week's Clubhouse Challenge is to write about how you use the feature. To me actually using something is the only way that I can tell you all about it, so that's what I am going to do. I am going to setup an event for tomorrow with the event feature. It is going to be a virtual event called Friday the 13th event and I am going to invite everyone to this virtual party.

I clicked on events at the top of my page; then I clicked on Create and event. The title: Friday the 13th event: Hosted by: Jeff: Contact number: My Unique Life in Windows Live Space: Template: Halloween party: 3. Then I set the date and time and I wrote this Description:

This is a Clubhouse Challenge to write about an event so I am creating a virtual party at My Unique Life in Windows Live Space to write a story about the events feature.

My event is to celebrate Friday the 13th and I know that this is pretty short notice, but please understand that this is a virtual party at my site.

All that I am asking that you do is stop by my site and leave a comment. What ever you want to say from Hello, to telling us something about what has happened to you on Friday the 13th. Whatever you what to do just to let me know you stopped by that would be great, that's it!

I would really appreciate it if you would stop by and join me in the celebration of it being Friday the 13th tomorrow. I apologize for the short notice but please feel free to stop by anytime my site is always open.

The Clubhouse: Sneak Peek

I am so excited to be a member of the Clubhouse! The site is setup to be private at the moment, but the membership is growing daily by invitation only right now, but shortly it will be open to all Windows Live Spaces users. The launching of the new Windows Live Community Clubhouse is just a few weeks away according to Marcus's video: Sneak Peek of New Windows Live Community and I wanted to share this preview about the Clubhouse Sneak Peek video:

I am having trouble figuring out how to use the MSN Video: Soapbox because it shows me as Anonymous, and when I click on Edit Profile it takes me to my (WLS) Web appearance page, but it doesn't save and return my profile info to Soapbox. I am still Anonymous and it says, "Data not available. Please try again later." Oh well I just copied the embedding video code and that worked.

I don't really know if I am supposed to be showing you all this information, but in a few weeks it will be available for everyone to see. I mean like how many people are going to look at my page in the next few weeks? But after the launch of the new site I could be getting a lot of visitors and that makes me a little nervous, but I suppose I will get use to it. Besides it sounds like a lot of fun! Don't you think so?

Writing Every Day!

I communicate by posting: "Writing Every Day!" The Clubhouse Challenge: Connections: "How important is it to you to “stay connected” from anywhere? Lay-out your scenario and tell us how Windows Live was important and helpful to staying in touch with others." Marcus has written a great story: My Indispensable Connection Hub now my story isn't so much about staying connected with the different forms of software or communication devices.

My form of communicating with the world is Blogging; sure I use all those other means of keeping in touch, but I made a commitment to myself to write something in my Windows Live Spaces Blog every day. I didn't realize what I was getting myself into when I made that challenge to myself. I consider myself a writer only by default: Because I am writing this and you are reading it, then I guess that makes me a writer.

I think it's amazing that Windows Live Spaces has been there for me every single day to post my entries. Talk about dependability: The site is there day or night to let me express my thoughts to the world. Sure there are a lot of days that I don't have much to say, but my Windows Live Spaces Blog is always there to listen and it puts my words on the page.

This is from my introduction on Technorati:

"I started my Blog on November 25, 2006 and I wanted a Web page where I could "Learn Something New!" Windows Live Spaces made it so easy that even I could do it. I made a commitment to myself to write something in my Blog everyday."

Some days I only make one Blog entry, other days I may make three or more, but I have communicated my thoughts to all of you in my writing. I like using my Blog to record Emails, links to other people's writing, Holidays, having my writing recorded and you can see the category's list on the left side of my Blog Here.

My Statistics Page

I am obsessed with "My Statistics Page" and this from the Windows Live Space help page:

"See how many people are reading your blog

Your Statistics page shows how many hits (A visit to your space. You can see the number of hits your space has received on the Statistics page.) your blog (Short for weblog. The act of writing an online journal. Each entry typically contains personal thoughts and web links, with the newest entries listed first.) has received.

Make sure that you've signed in (To sign in with your Windows Live ID, click Sign in in the upper-right corner.) to Windows Live Spaces.
Click the Options menu, and then click Statistics.

Notes

The Statistics page contains the following information:
- Total page views: Page hits since you created your space.
- Page views this week: Page hits during the current calendar week, which starts on Sunday.
- Page views today: Page hits since midnight of the current day.
- Page views within the last hour: Page hits within the last 60 minutes.
- Referring address: The web addresses from which others have visited your space within the last 24 hours.
It can take up to 10 minutes for updated information about your space to appear on the Statistics page.
Each visit you make to your own space is counted as part of the total page views.

I think that there is something wrong with my statistics page so I am going to request assistance and click on the Get more help at the lower right hand corner of the help page and then click on Get support. I am going to fill out the Email Support information and I described the problem I am having like this:

My statistics page is not working: I have clicked on a RSS feed for my Windows Live Space site and when I do that the hits or RSS feeds always show up on my statistics page. But there is something wrong and the information is not showing up on my statistics page. Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The Clubhouse: Photos

This entry is about the Weekly Challenge: Capturing the Moment at the Clubhouse and Marcus has a great video: Sharing our South Africa Vacation Memories to teach us all about using Windows Live Photo Gallery. I have never been to South Africa but I thought I would keep the same theme alive with some photos from my vacation at Disney World quite a few years ago.

I didn't have a digital camera then so sharing these photos involves scanning them and digitizing the photos so that I can show them to you on my Windows Live Space. I have the 33 photos digitized now and they are in my Windows Live Photo Gallery:

This photo shows where I am selecting the photos by clicking in the upper left hand corner of each photo to make an album out of all the photos. Then I clicked Publish from the menu bar at the top of the page and clicked Publish on my Windows Live Spaces.

The photos were then uploaded to my Windows Live Spaces site: I clicked on Edit Album and I rearranged the photos into a sequence that I liked. You can see my photos from the Disney's Animal Kingdom and the Kilimanjaro Safaris by clicking Here. I apologize for the picture quality and there's not much I can do about that, but the best thing about writing this entry is sharing part of my life with all of you.

This is only my second attempt to try and write something for the Clubhouse. Please bear with me as I try to learn how to communicate a few of the things I know about using (WLS) and the Window Live software. This is all really new to me, but I hope you enjoyed looking at my photos, and I had a lot of fun writing this entry. I hope to be seeing your photos on your Windows Live Spaces real soon!

The Clubhouse: My First Tip

I am so excited to be a member of the Clubhouse and my first tip would be to actually use your Windows Live Spaces website. I think that it is so great that Microsoft, through Windows Live Spaces, has provided this great media and a way for us to communicate whatever is on our minds. The issue that I see with Windows Live Spaces is that a lot of people create their site, but then they lose interest or for whatever reason don't follow through and update their page and add content on a regular basis.

This is my first entry: Starting a Blog (Like anyone is going to read this) dated 11/25/2006 and as you can see the posted date doesn't match the date on the entry. The first (WLS website) I had used my real name in the URL and I felt paranoid about having my full real name listed. I still wanted to "Learn Something New", which is my tagline for my website, but I deleted my Blog entries and posted them here with the new name My Unique Life in Windows Live Space.

I have really enjoyed expressing my thoughts, feelings, emotions and whatever is on my mind on any given day, but I still feel the paranoia that I did on my first entry. I have just learnt how to accept it and overlook that feeling because of the commitment I made to myself: To write something every day! I have no idea if this is the kind of information that the Clubhouse is looking for with their new community?

My tip is to be yourself and use your website. I have a little proverb I'd like to share with all of you from this entry: "Be Who You Are" "Be just who you are, not who you aren't, folks that do this are the Happiest lot."

It is only in my Mind!

I received a message from Hayley and toiled over how to respond; "It is only in my Mind!" None of the links worked in the message, so I did a search on the name and found this entry and then realized I was spammed. I really don't understand the point of the message other than it is emotionally misleading to do something like this to someone. I suppose, I am doing exactly what the spam is intended to do and that is to promote more of the same.

Yet, I can't resist writing about being spammed because of the emotional trauma that I put myself through because it. I suppose, I should just report the incident to Widows Live Spaces, and I think that's what I am going to do. But I still don't get the point of the message other than, the practical joke side of it, and I guess that's the point. I did a search and found this: Help! I've been Spammed! What do I do? (WLS) Help says: If you think there's a problem, report it immediately so that's what I am going to do.

I want to make friends and have connections with the people behind the keyboard; it is just too bad that there are others that just want to cause trouble. I just don't understand why some people do things likes this and why they have such destructive behaviors. Maybe if they had something more positive and constructive to do with their time they wouldn't be sending spam for fun.

If you use Windows Live Spaces, like I do, you'll be checking out Dev's page called Hack MSN Spaces sooner or later. He's got great information on how to do things on your page and how to install and use the latest gadgets.

Changing a List

The Wizard of Oz 1939 (Trailer)

Oops! Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, I was only "Changing a List" and no, I haven't had a sudden increase in Recently Viewed Blog Entries. I feel like the, Wizard, of The Wizard of Oz today, being exposed as a fraud by Toto, because I was trying to change a list and forgot all about the RSS feed broadcasting my change to everyone in the world.

I am going to change the list back to Miscellaneous Blog entries and make a new list for recently viewed Blog entries, something smaller than 100 entries. I think I will make the list for about 10 entries, because I thought it would be something interesting to update the list ever so often. I am also hiding my StumbleUpon Experiment List in order to make a Favorite Blogs List, because the experiment has been over almost as soon as it had begun.

I feel embarrassed because I am going to be making all these changes and every change will generate another RSS feed onto the Internet, but I don't know how else to do it, so I have to except that whatever I am doing will be seen by all. I am thinking, It will be good practice for me to get over my paranoia, like everyone's watching me, when in reality, who cares? Me explaining about "Changing a List."

My Statistics Page

I hope that by writing about "My Statistics Page" today it will help me to overcome the obsession that I have about looking at the page all the time. I really don't understand why I feel compelled to sit and look at the page as often as I do. I feel that at first looking at the page was more out of curiosity to see who was visiting my page so that I could return their visit and look at their page.

The obsession has gotten completely out of hand though, even though I know that I am still having Trouble with the Statistics page and the Windows Live Spaces Product Team is working on the problem. I can't seem to "Just let it Go" and move on to something that would be more productive to do with my time. That's another reason why I am writing this, at least when I am writing something I am not thinking or looking at my statistics page.

The other thing that comes to mind about looking at the statistics page so much is that it is egotistical of me to do so. I seem to be so concerned about whether anyone else is looking at my website; what difference does it make? I think the answer to that is because I am always hoping to make new social connections and trying to find new interests. I really don't know if this is the way to be trying to accomplish that though.

Writing this today makes me think that "I really need to get a Life!" The only problem is, I all ready have a Life and this is it, so how do I deal with these kinds of thoughts? I believe that writing about them and contemplating other possibilities and things that I could be doing would be a great avenue to explore, don't you? Me thinking at least I am not looking at "My Statistics Page."

Update on Statistics

I got a response from Technical Support today for an "Update on Statistics" and it looks there is nothing that I can do they're working on it. Here is what they said, "This issue has been identified by the Windows Live Spaces Product Team as high-priority and we want to assure you that we are working seriously to have this feature back as soon as possible. Due to the complexity of this issue we currently project several weeks of testing for our engineers to narrow down the exact server and resolve the issue."

I really do miss my Statistics page. Seeing all those hits makes me feel like someone might be reading what I am writing about, not that I am saying anything important mind you. It's just you never really know how much you enjoy looking at something until it's gone. I wanted to wish the Product Team "Good Luck" on their endeavor of finding the problem, I hope it's fixed really soon.

I finished my Fiction Friday entry for tomorrow; I don't know where this stuff came from that I wrote about, it even had me wondering what I was writing about. I hope that anyone reading it doesn't think that I have lost my mind or anything like that. It even sounds weird to me and I wrote it, I wonder what other people will think of it? That's one thing about writing; you never know what you're going to write until you type it on the page. Me writing about an "Update on Statistics."

Jay's Krib: It's all about the map

Trouble with Statistics

I am still having "Trouble with Statistics" on my Widows Live Space, I contacted Technical Support and I got a Email from them last night. I didn't read it until this morning and to make a long story short here is my response to the Email:

Hello

Thank you for responding to my request for Technical Support. The Statistics page on My Unique Life in Windows Live Space hasn't been working correctly since the upgrade on Friday 7/20/2007. You must be inundated with problems from people like me.

To help resolve my issue, please reply with the following information:
- an exact description of the problem: See original request for assistance and to give you another example: I write in my Blog everyday on My Unique Life in Windows Live Space and I use IceRocket a Blog search engine. Yesterday I was looking at my IceRocket page and I noticed it hadn't been update since 7/13/2007 so I requested a ping from IceRocket to update my entries that are displayed on their web site.

The ping sends out spiders (That's what they call them) to retrieve the new entries from my Blog. Today IceRocket has all my Blog entries up to date and I should have received a hit on my Statistics page showing me the time and that IceRocket was there, but today even thought the update did happen, I don't show that on my Statistics page.

- the Windows Live ID site where you experienced this problem: My Unique Life in Windows Live Space

- the exact error message that you received: I don't receive any error message

- the actions that you took before you encountered the problem: I took no action: The problem started when the upgrade to Widows Live Spaces was launched.

The Statistics page is very important to me; it shows me who has been to my site and it allows me to visit their site if I so choose.

I am looking forward to receiving your response. I miss seeing my Statistics, I do hope that you can help.

I am using the Blog It feature again today because I am still trying to figure out how it works, I thought that it would put Jay's article on my Blog entry today but it looks like it's just going to place a link back to the article. I really like Jay's article and I installed the Spaces Maps Beta on my site and it looks like I have had one visitor since I installed it. I am wondering if that hit is going to show up in my Statistics? Me writing about having "Trouble with Statistics."

Finding New Interests in Windows Live Space

Start a New Windows Live Space and here's the Quote that I did Talking about Start a New Windows Live Space this actually isn't my first (WLS) site; the first one I deleted because I use my last name on the URL and I was so paranoid about it I had to delete the site and I took all the entries and put them here on this site.

This was actually my first entry: Starting a Blog (Like anyone is going to read this) and I don't recall why I did this but it's kind of funny now. I still can't figure it out because the dates are backwards for a Quote; anyway. I wrote this What makes you Unique? And it might have been my wife or maybe I did it myself I can't recall and then I wrote this: Talking about What makes you Unique? The link that I used on that entry gives you this information; I wonder how many dead links I have on my Blog?

The authors have deleted this blog. The content is no longer available.

That was a nice little trip down memory lane. Me not even "Talking about Finding New Interests."

I couldn't believe it, I found something that makes me unique in Window Life Spaces. In the Profile area of the Web site it has an Interests section and I am the only one that has: Finding New Interests as one of my Interests. You would think that with all the people that are here that there would be other people that would want to Find New Interests.

Well that's all I have to say, maybe other people will see my Blog and I am sure there are other people who are trying to Find New Interest too. Me being Unique.

The more I want everything to remain the same the more "Everything Changes" and on Friday Windows Live Spaces had an upgrade. If you're interested you can read all about the upgrade here at The Space Craft. I also upgraded to Windows Live Writer Beta, I had upgraded once before and then did a System Restore because it didn't fix the problem that I was having. And I like the new features and you can read all about them here at the Windows Live Writer Blog.

I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that everything works correctly today (there's those "Negative Thoughts" showing themselves today) but if you don't see this post you won't know what's going on. Will you? I was really thinking more about Life than software and I think it's time to post one of my favorite prayers again:

I often find it hard to stay on track with what I am writing about; I tend to combine information, thoughts, emotions, life and anything else that comes to mind while I am writing. It must be difficult for someone reading this to understand what it is exactly that I am trying to say? Suggesting a New Feature

Today I "Suggested a New Feature" that I think would help people understand what's going on with Windows Live Spaces:

I think that it would be a great Feature to be able to find out when something is wrong with my Windows Live Space. Example: The Statistics page isn’t working today after the upgrade to the system yesterday and yes I was surprised when I refreshed my page, only to find that my Statistics were gone when the upgrade was launched.

The Feature could be a Windows Live Spaces page where pertinent information could be found and addressed by Technical Support. I believe it would be a great Feature to show that Windows Live Spaces cares enough about its user’s to maintained such a page and I think that it would be an efficient way of handling problems: Rather than all those individual complaints that something isn’t working correctly.

That’s my thoughts on this purposed New Feature. What do you think?

I also ask this question in QnA: Is anyone else having a problem with their Statistics page on Windows Live Spaces? But as of this moment no one has answered my question; there's still four days left to answer the question, if you can? Me "Suggesting a New Feature."

What I have Learned

I feel embarrassed to write about this today but sharing "What I have Learned" might help someone else. I asked this question in Live QnA: I can't add a new category on my blog: Is anyone else having the same problem?

I wanted to organize my blog entries and add new categories but the Add a Category link is broken. It is not illuminated like a link should be. It is dark and has no function to it.
Is it just my site or is everyone else having the same problem? What can I do to fix it? Any suggestions?
I reported it to Feedback two days ago...maybe it will take more time to fix it? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I started out by sending my question to Send Feedback and then realized that I probably wouldn't get an answered that way. I was letting it bother me that I couldn't organize my Blog entries so I tried QnA and after a few days; when I only had one answer. I resorted to Help and I don't know if the answer's there or not? But I couldn't find it. Then I tried Get more Help, and then, Get technical Support which was what I should have done in the first place.

They responded right away, but the first Email I received did solve my problem, so I sent them another Email and the second responds had the answer, "Please note that you can only add 14 categories on your Blog entries." And I was at my limit so I delete a couple of Categories and now I can organize my Blog.

This Blog entry might not help you with your problems but I felt that I needed to write about my experience, just to let you know. And besides now I have fulfilled my obligation to myself to write something in my Blog everyday. Me telling you "What I have Learned."

That didn't Work

Yesterday I wrote; My Blog is My Widows Live Space Web Site and I thought that I could post this "Writing Tip of the Day" and have it work in my Blog. But little did I know when I was writing about it that I was running into a problem. This is what happened, when I posted my Blog entry the Writing Tip didn't work, I think it had something to do with it being a JavaScript and I felt like a fool.

What I ended up doing was taking a print screen of the page and cropping the Writing Tip out of it. And then inserting the picture and reposing my Blog entry so at least it would look like it was supposed to. But in reality it didn't work at all because it won't update everyday like it was designed to work.

The part that's ironic is that I was trying to write about how my Blog is my web site, thinking that I could put anything in my Blog and have it work like its HTML. I have so much to learn about HTML and it's not something that I feel I will learn over night. I am reading this book;

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Creating an Html Web Page actually the book I am reading is a second edition, EBay special, it was cheap and I am sure I will learn the basics from it but I can't really say I like reading about HTML it's more out of necessity that I am reading about it than out of enjoyment for reading.

I am going to try to figure out difference between HTML and the HTML that is in my Widows Live Space Blog, I know that there's a difference because I put the code from the Writing Tip page in this page; HTML Practice Board and it works. So it has something to do with my Blog or there's something else that I don't understand and I need to figure it out. Me saying, "That didn't Work."

My first Request

Today I got my first request to add a contact to my Windows Live Messenger her name is Lucky Cat this is her Windows Live Spaces page; My foreign trade Career, I have taken the liberty to change one word in her page title, I hope that I chose the right word. I have never had any contact with Lucky Cat before she requested to be added to my Windows Live Messenger contact list. I find it strange out of all the people in the world that Lucky Cat chose me to add her to my list.

I have never used my Windows Live Messenger, except to chat with Bots, provided by the messenger, I am looking forward to actually chatting with a person on my Windows Live Messenger but I can't help but wonder how that will happen? I don't speak Chinese but from her Blog it looks like she has two entries in English. I hope that Lucky Cat will contact me and we can both "Learn Something New" about communicating.

From Lucky Cat's profile she has three providence's/districts of China listed; Anping, Tainan, Hengshui and Hebei, if I understand what I writing correctly? I guess I will just have to play this by ear and see what happens, I don't know what to expect from this contact. Me with, "My first Request."
